Oneida Indian Nation Homelands (October 20, 2021) – The Oneida Indian Nation is proud to once again be a sponsor of the Syracuse Film Festival. This year’s film festival will feature a special screening of the documentary “People of the Standing Stone” on Friday, October 22. The “People of the Standing Stone” is narrated by Academy Award-winner Kevin Costner and directed by Emmy Award-winner Ric Burns. The 25-minute film gives voice to the Oneida people’s tremendous story of courage and generosity as they helped America forge its independence during the Revolutionary War. The film traces the history of the Oneida Nation and offers a deeper exploration not often explained in history textbooks.
Immediately following the documentary, Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter will be interviewed about the film, and the Oneida Indian Nation’s efforts around Native American representation in popular culture.
The screening of the documentary and interview with Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter will be broadcast on Thursday, October 21st from 9pm-11pm on WCNY. The film and interview is also scheduled for Friday, October 22 at The Redhouse Theater at 7:00 p.m. Single program admission for the Syracuse Film Festival is $15.
The Syracuse Film Festival runs October 22 – 24 in locations throughout Syracuse.
About the Oneida Indian Nation
The Oneida Indian Nation is a federally recognized Indian nation in Central New York. A founding member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (also known as the Six Nations or Iroquois Confederacy), the Oneida Indian Nation sided with the Americans in the Revolutionary War and was thanked by Congress and President George Washington for its loyalty and assistance.
